“My name is Lucky Ncube, and I am 23 years old. I live with my mother, father and younger brother. Life has not been easy for my family due to limited household income.
I joined the KS-YARC Project to gain practical skills and knowledge in agriculture, particularly in farming. However, I have gained much more than agricultural skills. Through the African Money Map sessions, I learned how to manage money, prepare a budget, save consistently and plan for my future. Before joining the project, I never thought seriously about financial management, but I now understand that even small income can grow if it is managed wisely.
The team-building sessions also transformed me. I learned the importance of teamwork, listening to others, respecting different opinions and working together towards a common goal. These lessons have increased my confidence and strengthened my relationships with others.
As a young person, this project has given me meaningful purpose. Many of my peers are losing direction through drug and alcohol abuse because they have little to occupy their time. I have chosen a different path. Alongside the project, I also run a small business selling cosmetics and beauty products on commission, which helps me generate some income.
I am looking forward to receiving training on poultry production, particularly broiler and layer management, so that I can establish my own poultry enterprise. I strongly believe this project is equipping me with the knowledge, discipline and confidence to build a better future for myself and my family.”
