Hope for a Child in Christ (HOCIC) is a Non Profit Organisation that was established in 1995 and registered as a Private and Voluntary Organization (PVO) in 1999 under the Social Welfare Department with a mandate of assisting orphaned children due to the HIV and AIDS pandemic in Zimbabwe.

The organisation was formed by a group of interdenominational churches in response to the call of the government for a multi sectoral response to HIV. HOCIC currently operates in the greater Matabeleland Region covering Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo.

The organisation has implemented programs that cover Midlands and Manicaland in the past. While having started by focusing on directly assisting children in difficult circumstances with psycho-social support including school related assistance, the organisation has diversified its programming. HOCIC has extended its programming towards working with the family unit particularly focusing on the woman who is the caregiver of the vulnerable child.

The organisation’s direct target beneficiaries currently include children, youth, women and persons with disability. Programmes are guided by the 2021 to 2025 Strategic Plan which has 5 thematic areas namely, Child Protection and Participation; Food Security and Livelihoods; Women Empowerment; Youth, Education and Lifeskills; Public Health.

Over the years, the organisation has impacted over five hundred thousand people in need with programs that focus on Food Security, Education Support, Peer Education, Climate Change Adaptation, GBV and HIV Prevention through the support of both local and international partners.
