ABOUT HOCIC
From Crisis Response to Lasting Change
In response to the HIV and AIDS crisis that gripped Zimbabwe in the 1990s, a coalition of interdenominational churches came together to support orphaned and vulnerable children. From this mission, Hope for a Child in Christ (HOCIC) was born in 1995 — a faith-inspired movement of compassion and community care.
By 1999, HOCIC was registered as a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO), providing psychosocial and educational support to families affected by the epidemic. Over time, the organisation broadened its work to empower women, strengthen families, and build community resilience.
Today, HOCIC operates across Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, and Bulawayo, reaching children, youth, women, and persons with disabilities through programs rooted in protection, empowerment, and hope — guided by its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
